Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Within approximately four to six weeks of your closing you should receive the original deed in the mail from your title company that handled your closing. Once you have the deed for a primary residence, you may file for a homestead exemption. Not only does the homestead exemption reduce the taxable value of your property by up to $50,000, but it also limits future annual increases in assessed value to 3% or less. You have until March 1st of the following year to file for homestead exemption. Please note: if you have sold your primary residence to purchase your new home in the prior two tax rolls, you may be eligible for portability. This will allow you to transfer some or all of the “Save Our Homes” benefit on a previous homestead to your newly established homestead. Thank you again for doing business with Halvorsen Team. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. File for the homestead exemption with the Florida County Appraisal District in which your primary residence resides.
